2025 In Review: Reflections of a Vibrant Year
As the year draws to a close, we reflect on a season of meaningful achievement and fresh opportunities ahead. This summer, our team was privileged to launch the first application of Targeted Acoustic Startle Technology (TAST) in Canada, marking an important milestone for both innovation and conservation along the Fraser River. Together with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO) and the Pacific Salmon Commission (PSC), we are making tangible strides to protect vital salmon stocks and improve fisheries data quality – a testament to what international collaboration can achieve when science meets urgency. Along these same lines, we are also proud to be working with the Namibian Hake Association and the Marine Stewardship Council to advance sustainable fishing, prevent seal bycatch, and protect marine life in new regions.
At the heart of our work remains a commitment to advancing technology that supports both industry needs and responsible wildlife management. Field deployments in the Northern and Southern hemispheres reflect a focus on scalable solutions and sector leadership. However, our journey has extended well beyond the workbench and waterside. This year has brought a steady surge of recognition, including being named finalists for the 2025 Aquaculture UK Awards alongside the University of St Andrews, and most recently through new peer-reviewed publications demonstrating TAST’s effectiveness across multiple geographies – including Scotland. Additional opportunities to tell our story were presented at the annual meeting for the WA-BC Chapter of the American Fisheries Society, Aqua Nor, and the Responsible Seafood Summit; events where every connection further strengthens the foundation on which we build industry-wide change.
Looking ahead, we continue to move with purpose: to deepen partnerships, scale innovation, and carry forward the lessons of a vibrant 2025.
