Tech deters seals from Hood Canal Bridge
Exciting news for those passionate about Pacific Northwest ecosystems and salmon recovery: the Hood Canal Bridge is now the site of innovative efforts to protect migrating steelhead and salmon from predation. As featured recently on FOX 13 Seattle, scientists and partners – including Oceans Initiative, Long Live the Kings, the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe, and State & Federal agencies – are using TAST to help juvenile fish safely navigate past the bridge, a known bottleneck where up to half of migrating steelhead have been lost to predators like harbour seals.
This collaborative, science-driven approach is a promising step forward for salmon recovery in Hood Canal and beyond. Watch the recent FOX 13 Seattle segment here for an inside look at the teams and technology making a difference.
